Walter S Davis, Sr.

Walter Davis, 72 years old, peacefully passed away Thursday, September 25, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.

Walter was born on July 21, 1953 in Kankakee, IL to the late Jeffrey Joseph Davis and Mary Elizabeth (Smith) Davis-Eggleston. Walter is also preceded in death by his son, Shawn Swartz; brothers, Jeffrey Davis and Anthony Davis; sister, Frances Davis-Taylor; niece, Shlynda Davis; and his nephews, Jason Davis and Joshua Carr.

Left to cherish their memory of Walter, is the love of his life for 29 years, Susan Davis; sons, Walter (Cennie) Davis II, David Rossi, Jeremy (Amber) Davis, Jordan (Sarah) Davis, and Phil (Andrea) VandenBossche; his daughter, Sandra Brown; daughter-in-law, Angie Swartz; brothers, Robert (Vonnie Jean) Davis, Theopolis “Top” Davis, Theodore “Ted” (Mary) Davis, Delbert (Yolanda) Davis, and Charles “Tim” (Kathy) Davis; sisters, Lottie Sims, Ethel (James) Carr, and Jimmenia Eggleston; grandchildren, Tayah, Rashad II, Amaria, Nate, Norah, Zayn, Mariah, Jordan, Jackson, Mason, Aria, Olive, Shakyra, Walter III, Nadia, Ge’Onna, and Brylan; great-grandchildren, AmorCamille, Christopher, Zillah, and Rashad III; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

Walter enjoyed bowling, fishing, playing spades, or listening to his favorite artist, Joe Simon. Some of his favorite memories were going on vacations on a cruise ship or doing weekend trips with his brothers, Delbert and Ted.

Visitation for Walter will be held Saturday, October 4, 2025 from 10:00am-1:00pm at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend with a Funeral Service to start at 1:00pm. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions in honor of Walter Davis may be made out to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
