Violet M (Vosberg) Whitlow

Violet M Whitlow, 96 years old, peacefully passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2025 at home surrounded by her family.

Violet was born on February 13, 1928 in Dundee, MN to the late Herman and Dorthea (Duetchman) Vosberg.  Violet is also preceded in death by her daughter, Cynthia Babbitt; grandson, Jason; siblings, Raymond Vosberg, Viola Rehborg, Lucille Preuss, Mildred Holdam, and Gladys Anderson; and her close friends, Paul Read and Charles Hiatt.

Violet is survived by children; Candace Whitlow, Michael (Genevieve) Babbitt, Jerry (Virginia) Babbitt and David Babbitt; grandchildren, Jessica, Jackie, Tammie, Chadwick, Tiffany, Nicole, Brooke; 14 great-grandchildren; and siblings, James (Gean) Vosberg and June Winters.

Violet was a phenomenal seamstress and has been since she was only 12 years old. She was extremely detail-oriented and would make wedding dresses from scratch, then also altered gowns for Greta’s Bridal. In all of her years sewing and tailoring, she never once got a complaint from her customers. She would even sew flags for Holy Family Catholic Church and Chain of Lakes Conservation Club. Violet also loved ice-skating, tending to her flower garden – especially her purple lilacs, and was a great cook. She was known for her pies and homemade sweets. Above all, she was a woman of faith and she loved her family – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind an incredible legacy and she will be deeply missed.

Friends and family will be received Thursday, January 9, 2025 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at St. Joseph Funeral Home. Then again from 11:00am-12:00pm Friday, January 10, 2025 with a funeral service starting at 12:00pm, all at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend. Following graveside services there will be a Celebration of Life at Chain of Lakes Conservation Club, 26230 Southport Dr, South Bend, IN 46628.
