Theresa Marie Schoonaert

Theresa “Terri” Marie Schoonaert, 61, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 at her home in South Bend.

Terri was born in South Bend on March 22, 1963 to John Kacsits and Linda (Jones) Kacsits, and they both survive. She went to Mountainview High School in Kingsley, PA and later graduated from Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. She also had attended Indiana University South Bend. She was a Special Education Teacher working several places in the South Bend area. On June 25, 2005 in South Bend, she married Gary Michael Schoonaert, and he survives.  

Terri loved cooking and gardening. She was an avid believer in magic. Lover of all things that sparkle. She was a fighter but also a lover and a proud woman.

Left to cherish the memories of Terri are her parents and her husband Gary; daughter, Chelsey (Jeff) Hagan of South Bend; son, Joshua (Aly) Lowe of Rockhill, SC; daughter, Marissa (Paul) Gonzales of South Bend; son, Jeremiah (Lissette) Lowe of South Bend; step daughter, Abigail Schoonaert of South Bend; step son, Brian (Tara) Schoonaert of South Bend; step son, Andrew Schoonaert of South Bend; brother, John (Susan) Kacsits of Hudsonville, MI; sister, Beth (David) Schmidt of Corcoran, MN; brother, Chris Kacsits of Naples, FL; sister, Michelle (Fred) Schebor of Hillsdale, MI; grandchildren, Conner Schoonaert, Jack Bracy Lowe, Evelyn Hagan, and Clara Lowe; also, several nieces and nephews  .

A celebration of life for Terri will be held at 12:00 pm Friday, May 31, 2024, at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. Friends may visit from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, two hours prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. A private burial of cremated remains will take place at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery
