Sylvia Wieczorek

Sylvia Wieczorek, 82, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Sylvia was born on April 23, 1940 in South Bend, IN to the late Casimer and Virginia (Mackowski) Zarobinski. Both Preceded her in death.

On November 19, 1960 in South Bend, IN Sylvia married Chester Wieczorek, her high school sweetheart.

Sylvia was a 1958 graduate of Washington High School where she developed friendships that remained constant throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed going to lunch once a month with her WHS friends, and Chet. She attended Bethel College while she was employed by the South Bend Community School Corp., from where she retired in 2002. All the children she worked with were “her kids” whom she loved dearly. Her house was always filled with children who brought Love and Laughter at all times.

Left to cherish the memory of Sylvia is her husband Chet; loving children, sons, Kenneth (Barbara) Wieczorek of Mishawaka, Robert Wieczorek of South Bend; daughters, Janice Gibbs of Bolingbrook, IL, Cynthia (James) Wittendorf of Granger; ten grandchildren whom she treasured, Hunter Wieczorek of New Hampshire, Anthony Wieczorek of South Bend, Miles and Samuel Wieczorek of South Bend, Nathaniel Gibbs of Bolingbrook, IL, Nicholas, Sydney, Carter, Cameron, and Alayna Wittendorf of Granger; sisters, Janet Futa of North Liberty, Georgianne (Ronald) Compton of South Bend; sister-in-law, Theresa Lichnerowicz of South Bend and several nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She loved the outdoors, enjoyed gardening, traveling every year with the family, photography, baking and mostly visiting with her dear family and friends.

Visitation for Sylvia will be on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm with a rosary to be prayed at 5:00pm at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00am with visitation beginning at 10:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd. Burial will take place at a later date.
