Sophie Stella Gaddey, age 101, passed away on April 5th, 2023 at Southfield Village, South Bend, Indiana. Sophie was born on December 25, 1921, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Stanley and Stella (Polak) Piotrowski. In 1943 she married Walter S. Glon, Sr. who died March 29, 1947. Together they had two children. Sophie was also preceded in death by her son, Walter S. Glon, Jr. in November, 2017, sister’s Jane Jerzakowski, Carrie Glon and brother, Stanley Piotrowski, Jr. In 1952 she married William L. Gaddey, who died August 2, 2018.
Survivors include her daughter Lorraine (George) Giltner of Mishawaka, IN and Daughter-in-Law, Deanna Glon, Jr. of Thermopolis, WY, four granddaughters and one special and favorite grandson, 12 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews whom she loved and cherished.
She retired from Bayer Corporation (formerly Miles, Inc.) in 1987. Previously she worked at Studebaker, Inc., White House Shirt Mg., Gerber Mfg. and Wilson/Enro Shirt Factory.
In her retirement years, she volunteered for RSVP and Busy Hands and in 2007 she received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for completing over 4,000 hours in 2 years. She was a long time member of the American Legion Post 357 and the Rosary Society of St. Adalbert’s.
Her journey through life was difficult at times, but she had enormous strength to endure and the Polish stubbornness to overcome these hardships.
Mom, Busia, Ciocia, you had a heart of gold and loved giving to others. We will treasure the crocheted and knitted gifts made by your skillful hands. We will miss the delicious cakes, the card playing, your fun-loving personality, sparking blue eyes, and that infectious smile that will forever warm our hearts.
Your legacy will forever be a reminder of how lucky we were to have you in our lives.

Mass will be at St. Adalbert Catholic Church on Tuesday, April 11th at 11:00am. Meeting with family one hour prior to the mass.
