Seweryna M Szymanski, 95 years old, peacefully passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at Trailpoint Village in South Bend.
Seweryna was born on March 29, 1929 in Poland to the late Peter and Amelia (Dobrowski) Skorupka. On January 4, 1950, Seweryna married her first love, Edward Pankiewicz, who passed away in 1962. She then met her 2nd husband whom she married on November 9, 1972, Eugene Szymanski, who passed away in 1996. Seweryna is also preceded in death by her son, Lester Pankiewicz; grandsons, John Pankiewicz and Nathaniel Wiggins; great-grandson, Slate Sulentic; and her sister, Teresa Kozuchowski.
Left to cherish their memories of Seweryna are her children, Ted (Mary Lou) Pankiewicz and Barbara (Stephen) Wiggins; grandchildren, Christina Torres, Edward (Jennifer) Pankiewicz, Michael Pankiewicz, Jeremiah (Susan) Wiggins, and Zachariah (Nicole) Wiggins; and great-grandchildren, Kala, Ashlyn, Landen, Harley, Quinn, Mara, Madelyn, Regan, Haelyn, Delilah, Dominic, Mary, Emily, and Lucille.
Seweryna moved to South Bend from Poland in 1960 with her husband and family. She was a hard worker. She loved her job at Goodwill and worked until she was 89 years old. Seweryna was a faithful member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Hallers Post on Western Ave. She loved Notre Dame Football, cooking – especially her delicious Pierogis, dancing, singing, and listening to her Polish music. Above all, Seweryna loved her family. She loved spending time with them and having large family gatherings whenever she could.
Visitation for Seweryna will be from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd, South Bend, with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Friday, September 27, 2024 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W. Grace St., South Bend, IN. with a one-hour visitation prior to Mass at the church. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
