Robert Harry Urbanski

Robert Harry Urbanski, 98 years old, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Southfield Village in South Bend. Bob was born on March 7, 1925 in South Bend, to the late Harry and Stefanie (Albrecht) Urbanski. He is also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Urbanski; a daughter, Patricia Urbanski; and two grandchildren, Jacob Robert and Lindsay Marie Axelberg.

Left to cherish their memory of Bob is the love of his life of 75 years, Betty J. (Brown) Urbanski; his children, Mary Jo (Robert) Grant, Michaelene (Charles) Feyos, David (Jena) Urbanski, and Joseph (Andrea Popielski) Urbanski; and a special daughter, Deborah Carillo. He was also blessed with nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Bob was a lifelong resident of South Bend where he graduated from South Bend Catholic High School. After graduation he proudly served his country in the 12th Armored Division of the United States Armed Forces during World War II. Upon returning home, Bob married the love of his life, Betty Brown. They just celebrated their 75th anniversary in April. Bob was also a 1954 graduate of Notre Dame University. Bob loved to enjoy his life and was very fortunate to spend retirement traveling all over the world. Bob and Betty loved to experience different cultures and their favorite form of travel were cruises. They also loved to dance and were always the first on the dance floor. Bob also loved fishing, playing poker, was a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, and loved spending time on his land and writing poems. He was also a parishioner at Cathedral of St. Matthews and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2083, and American Legion Post 357. Above all, Bob loved spending time with his wife and family, his Florida family, and all of his friends. He will be truly missed.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, June 9, 2023 at the Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1701 Miami St, South Bend, with a visitation beginning at 9:30 am at the church. A burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.

Donations in honor of Robert H. Urbanski may be made out to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital or the Veterans Association.
