Peter Wajszczuk, 78, peacefully passed away on September 13, 2023 at Northwoods Village Memory Care in Mishawaka.
Peter was born on July 25, 1945 in Schelklingen Kreis Ehingen, Germany to the late Adolf and Wladyslawa (Klaudel) Wajszczuk. He immigrated with family to the US at age 4 in 1950. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Christine (Konnie) Pieczykolan, in-laws, Charlie & Gloria (Lutes) Weaver, and his precious furbabies, Buttons, Pumpkin, & Lilli.
Left to cherish the memory of Peter is his wife of 45 years, Rebecca (Lutes) Wajszczuk; son, Peter (Amanda) Wajszczuk; grandchildren, Karli and Connor; brother, Eugene (Susan) Wajszczuk; sister, Elizabeth Wajszczuk; nieces, Jane (Jim) Szczepaniak, Diane (Jack) Barry; great-nieces, Ellen (Emmanuel) Garza and Emily Barry; 3 nephews; brother-in-law, Stan (Pat) Lutes; and many other dear family members, including, Alice Pieczykolan.
Peter was a Vietnam Veteran who honorably served his country in the United States Airforce and reserves. He attended St. Hedwig grade school and graduated from St. Joseph High School. He worked for Honeywell for over 30 years. Peter was a member of the American Legion Post 50 and the Holy Name Society at St. Hedwig. He was a devout Catholic. Peter enjoyed his past longtime bowling league, keeping up his yard, Menards, and researching Polish history.
The family would like to thank the staff at Creekside Village, Northwoods Village Memory Care, and St. Joseph Hospital. They would also like to thank their neighbors, Ron & Donna for their care and kindness.
Visitation for Peter will be 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN with a Rosary to be prayed at 5:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at St. Hedwig Catholic Church, 331 S. Scott St., South Bend, IN. Military Honors will follow.
