Morris "Casey" Jones Obituary

On November 1, 2022, Morris “Casey” Jones took his final checkered flag surrounded with the people he loved.

Casey was an avid race car fan and in the 50’s and 60’s and he drove stock cars at Playland Park, South Bend Motor Speedway, Plymouth Speedway and New Paris Speedway.  In the 70’s he moved up to open wheel sprint cars.  During his racing career he held many track records from St. Paul, Minnesota Fairgrounds to Oswego, New York. Casey proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.

On August 15, 1972, Casey married the love of his life, Sherri, and they recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Casey owned and operated Casey’s Lift Truck Service on West Sample St., for over 20 years.  He serviced Northern Indiana with material handling equipment, sales and service.  While having his own business he was proud to be a part of transforming a donated Kreamo bread truck into the first SWAT vehicle for the South Bend Police Department. Casey accomplished many things during his 99 years and lived a full and fulfilling life, he will be truly missed by all.

Casey was born January 24, 1923 in Sturgis to the late John and Sadie (Cowell) Jones.  He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Clement Makely; mother-in-law, Dorothy Makely; son-in-law, Benjamin Wachowiak; and a nephew, Dan Anthony Ruszkowski.

Left to cherish the memory of Morris is his loving wife Sharon "Sherri" Jones; daughter, Beverly Wachowiak; grandson, Morris Wachowiak; brother-in-law, Skip (Sharon) Makely; his brother-in-law, whom he helped raise since he was 6 years old, Donald (Judy) Ruszkowski; nephew/godson, Scott (Cathi) Ruszkowski, nephew, Rick (Chrissy) Ruszkowski, nephew, Don Ruszkowski; and many other nieces and nephews.

Per the family, there will be no services at this time. There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date. St. Joseph Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Donations in honor of Morris “Casey” Jones may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN and Christ Child Society of South Bend, 2366 Miracle Lane, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
