South Bend - Michael F. LeeVan, 62, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Center for Hospice Raclin House on the Mishawaka Riverwalk, in a room overlooking one of his favorite fishing spots.
Mike was born on July 28, 1960 in South Bend to the late Robert Frank and Lucia (Lopinski) LeeVan. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Margaret LeeVan-Andrie.
Left to cherish Mike’s memory are his sister, Michelle LeeVan, and brothers, Greg LeeVan, and Steve (Christa) LeeVan; nieces and nephews, Rachel Andrie, Casey LeeVan, Nick Andrie, and Bethany LeeVan; and a brother-in-law, Michael Andrie (Sue Stockinger); along with several uncles & aunts and many cousins.
Mike was a lifelong resident of South Bend. He played on the golf team at Washington High School and was a 1978 graduate. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University. He worked for Nyloncraft in Mishawaka, then Excel Industries in Elkhart; and finally Leer (Truck Accessories Group) in Elkhart, working until his disability in 2017. Michael was very meticulous as an Engineer, and demonstrated thorough attention to detail, precision, and legendary problem-solving skills in all aspects of his life. He was an avid fisherman, Notre Dame and Cubs fan, and conversationalist, who enjoyed music and playing the guitar and recreating family favorite recipes.
Mike had a fun personality, easily visible in his animated storytelling, his belief that he set fashion trends, and how he sometimes cooked based on color versus taste. He was a devoted brother, always willing to lend a helping hand, and an amazing and loving uncle, active in his nieces' and nephews' lives and very proud of their accomplishments and achievements.
The family thanks staffs at St. Joseph Hospital 6th floor, Michiana Hematology & Oncology, and Hospice Raclin House for their care and compassion provided.
Services will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023 in St. Joseph Funeral Home with visitation 9:00-10:00AM and the funeral ceremony beginning at 10:00AM. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
