Marvin “Woody” Wood Obituary

Marvin “Woody” Elliott Wood, 94 years old, passed away on March 08, 2026 at Raclin Center for Hospice in Mishawaka, IN.         
Marvin was born on January 15, 1932 in Mishawaka, IN to the late Jesse James and Frances M. (Cheney) Wood. On April 7, 1956, Marvin married the love of his life, Mary Anne (Murphy) Wood, who precedes him. Marvin is also preceded in death by his son, Kerry Barger; brothers, Paul Wood and Jesse Wood; and a sister, Margaret Albert

Left to cherish their memories of Marvin are his daughters, Anita (Carl) Patterson, Jacquelyn (Steven) Rojics and Richelle (John) Bryant and a step daughter Diana (Ken) Waggoner; grandchildren, Aaron and Andrew Patterson, Gina Ciesialka, Amanda Ciula and John Bryant as well as several beloved great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Marvin proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955. After serving his country he began working as a Tool and Die maker at Bendix for 30 Years. Marvin was a life-time member and officer of Disabled Veterans as well as a life-time member of both the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was also a volunteer for many years at the Veterans Hospital in Kerrville, Texas.
Woody enjoyed restoring antique and classic cars and was a member of the Hoosier Old Wheels Antique car club in Plymouth, IN. He also enjoyed wood working and motorcycles.  He loved country music and would often dance the Jitterbug with his wife Anne at social events. He never met a stranger and made a friend of everyone he met. Woody was a memorable character who was well known for his funny jokes and stories.
The family would like express their thanks to Dr. Bradley Scott, his personal Physician, Dr. Khaleeur Zackariya of SJRMC and Dr. Muhammad Hussain of Michiana Hematology Oncology, as well as many dedicated VNA nurses for their excellent care, and a special thank you to the Ernestine M. Raclin Center for Hospice Care.

Visitation for Woody will be held from 4pm to 8pm on Monday, March 16, 2026 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN. His funeral service will be held at St. Joseph Funeral Home the following day at 11am with an hour of visitation beforehand. Burial will follow at in Oak Hill Cemetery, Memorial Park Addition.
In lieu of flowers donations in honor of Marvin E. Wood maybe made to Pet Refuge, the VFW, or the Ernestine M. Raclin Center for Hospice Care, Mishawaka.
