Marvin Horvath

Marvin D. Horvath, 94 years old, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Marvin was born on December 31, 1930 in Detroit, MI to the late Anthony and Mary (Stitsworth) Horvath. On August 11, 1951, Marvin married the love of his life, Marjorie Rininger, she preceded him in death.  He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Francis Horvath, Carl Horvath, Marjorie Ellen Friedorsdorf; and son Stephen Horvath.

Left to cherish the memories of Marvin are his children, Debra (Raymond) Bianchi, Kirk (Melanie) Horvath, Candace Huff, Deanna (Garry) Fields, Michael (Sherre) Horvath; a daughter in law Lillian Horvath; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Horvath.

Marvin was a parishioner of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police #155, lifelong member of the Chain-o-lakes Conservation Club, St. Vincent DePaul Society, and the Painters Local Union #1118.

Marvin worked for 39 years at O’Brien Paint. He enjoyed gardening and wood working, and was handy at working on cars which he passed on to his children.  Marvin was an animal lover, whether it was spending time with his dogs or watching the birds that would visit the feeder he built in his backyard.

The family would like to thank The Center for Hospice, The Church Ladies, Travis, Vickie, Rick, Courtney and Mike for the wonderful and compassionate Care that was given to Marv. We could not have made it through without any of you!

Visitation for Marvin will be from 5 PM to 8PM on August 29, 2025 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend with a Rosary to be prayed before visitation at 4:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Saturday, August 30, 2025 at Holy Family Catholic Church.  Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in honor of Marvin D. Horvath.
