Kathleen (Katie) Ann Fozo passed away on Monday September 2, 2024 at home with her family, from a short illness.
Katie was born in Mishawaka, Indiana on December 15, 1935 to the late Commodore and Margaret (Weinkauf) Becraft. She was a graduate of the 1953 class of Mishawaka High School, known for its active long running alumni group. She retained a close friendship with her high school best friend, Jan (Brown) Nagy, and they still traveled to the Four Winds casino in New Buffalo as often as they could.
On July 25, 1959, Katie married Dale K Fozo from South Bend. He preceded her in death in 2012. All of her siblings, Joseph and Franklin Becraft, and Sherry Sheets preceded her in death.
Katie and Dale settled on the west side of South Bend and raised their four children. Katie is survived by Pamela (Jim Ellett, deceased), Alan (Leslie Schmitz, Life Partner), Doug (Robin) and Greg (Gayle), all of South Bend. Katie is also survived by 9 grandchildren (Josh Fozo, Ariel Yoder, Amanda Cook, Olivia Fozo, Matt Fozo, Zach Fozo, Lauren Fozo, Sydney Fozo, and Lukas Fozo), and 9 great-grandchildren.
Katie loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and wanted to be kept up-to-date on the details of their lives. She also loved sports; was a big Cubs and Notre Dame Women’s basketball fan, and recounted each game. One of the highlights of Katie’s life was selling Avon for over 40 years and gave it up only when it became physically difficult to continue. Katie was also a long-time parishioner of both Holy Family and St. John’s parishes on the west side.
Visitation will be from 4:00pm to 7:00pm Thursday, September 5, 2024 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 South Mayflower, South Bend, with a Rosary to be prayed at 3:30pm. In Lieu of a Church Funeral mass, a visitation will start at 9:00am Friday, September 6, 2024, followed by a Catholic Liturgy performed at 10:00am St. Joseph Funeral Home. A commitment ceremony will be performed at the St. Joseph Cemetery immediately following the Liturgy, followed with a wake at the American Legion Post 357 on Grant Road.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Kathleen Ann Fozo are suggested to Center for Hospice Care, St. Jude’s Children Home, or the Shriners organization.
