Josephine "Josie" Pecina was called home to the Lord in the early hours of August 22, 2023. She was born in Poland in 1933 and emigrated to the United States in 1958 where she met her husband, Ted Pecina, in South Bend, Indiana. They were married 63 years.
Josie was a loyal member of the Polonaise Club and Harvest House. A devout Catholic, she served as a Eucharist Minister at St. Adalbert Church and joined the 1st Catholic Ladies Association in 1967; Josie continued to live by her faith into her 90th year on earth. She led her family with strength and unconditional love. Josie was known to be a wonderful cook; family and friends have fond memories of the many large gatherings she and Ted hosted in their home. They spent their final years together in Kokomo, IN. Every person who had the privilege of knowing her was touched by her grace, compassion, wit, and devotion. If there is one thing she exemplified in her lifetime, it was her boundless, joyous, and enduring love for family.
Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, with whom she is now joyfully reunited. Left to cherish her memory are her sister Olga; brother, Wladek; daughters, Christine and Barbara; sons, Mark, Tom, and Mike; and her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am Monday, August 28, 2023 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W Grace St, South Bend, IN, with a two-hour visitation prior at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd, South Bend, IN. Burial will immediately follow Mass at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
