Josephine Frances Gawlik, 77, of Plainfield, IN, died the morning of Monday, December 23, 2024, in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.
Josephine was born on April 6, 1947 in Nowy Sacz Poland to the late Hilary and Franciszka (Ruczynski) Skornog. She is preceded in death by her brothers Janek Skornog and Mieczyslaw Skornog.
Left to cherish Josephine’s memory is her loving husband of 53 years, Stanley Gawlik; daughter, Jacqueline (Robert) Baraso; son, Michael (Melanie) Gawlik; two grandchildren, Sydney and Sophia Baraso. Her 3 sisters, Janina, Halina, and Mary as well as many loving nieces and nephews and cousins.
Josephine moved from Poland to the United States in search of a better life. She attended college at Indiana University South Bend. On May 8th, 1971, in St. Adalberts Catholic Church, Josephine married her loving husband of 53 years Stanley Gawlik. She lived, worked, and raised her family in Chicago. Following her retirement, Josephine and Stanley moved to Indianapolis to be closer to her beloved grandchildren Sydney and Sophia Baraso. Josephine loved making memories on family vacations with her husband, children, and grandchildren. She also enjoyed casino gaming where she always had an uncanny ability to find a winning slot machine. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother for her family and will be greatly missed.
Visitation for Josephine will be held from 10:00 am - 11:30 am Friday, December 27, 2024 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd, South Bend, with a Rosary to be prayed at 11:30am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the rosary at 12:00pm at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W Grace St, South Bend. Entombment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend.
