Jose Manuel Torres “Meme”, 77 years old, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 in Brownsville, TX.
Jose was born on September 17, 1945 in Brownsville, Texas to the late Jose Torres and Nasaria Rios. Along with his parents, Jose was preceded in death by his sisters, Viola Medina and Emilia Canul; brother, Israel Torres; and his daughter, Cynthia Torres.
Left to cherish the memory of Jose is his wife of 48 years, Esmeralda Torres; daughters, Dalia of South Bend, IN, and Lisa of North Dakota; sons, Angel of South Bend, IN, and Jose Jr of Texas; sisters, Trinidad Zavala, Norma Estrada, and Lupita Torres; grandchildren, Malaysia McKinney, Carlton Gary, Michael Lee, Angelo Hawthorne, Tabatha Goeller, Jennifer Goeller, Matthew Goeller, Dominique Torres, and Vanessa Torres; and his great-grandchildren, Amir Dean, Amyra Merriweather, Noalen Lozano, Audrick Hawthorne, Jackson McGrauth, William McGrauth and Lila Goeller.
Meme was employed by Goodwill Industries for over 20 years. He enjoyed listening and playing Tejano music. Over the decades, Jose could often be found playing his accordion and singing with his friends and family. He also loved watching Gomer Pyle and Gunsmoke. Meme was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Visitation for Jose will be 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm with a rosary to be prayed at 6:00 pm on Friday, December 2, 2022 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. Family and friends may gather again on December 3, 2022 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am with a Funeral Service to begin at 11:00 am in the Funeral Home Chapel. A burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
