John Francis Hardman, 90 years old, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at his residence in New Carlisle.
John was born on October 4, 1935 in South Bend, to the late Howard and Ethel (Humphrey) Hardman. On October 20, 1956, John married the love of his life, Shirley Wroblewski, who preceded him in death. Along with his parents and loving wife, John is preceded by his son, Richard Hardman; daughter-in-law, Pamela Hardman; brothers, Royal Hardman, Clyde Hardman, Robert Hardman, Marion Hardman, Joseph Hardman, Donald Hardman; sisters, Eleanor Lovell, Mary Joan Batdorf, Rosie McEndarfer, Peggy Wallace; sisters-in-law, Adeline Wroblewski, Gertrude Gadacz; and brothers-in-law, Norbert Wroblewski, Alvin Wroblewski, Thomas Wroblewski.
Left to cherish their memory of John are his children, Chris (Ann) Hardman, Kathryn (Jim) Henderson, Michael Hardman, and Lynne Hardman; 13 Grandchildren,
24 great-grandchildren; as well as his sisters, Helen McDonald, and Edna Parcell; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
John was a member of Teamsters Local #364 and a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader for his children. John found great joy in the simple pleasures—bowling, golfing, smoking cigars and pipes, and, most memorably, making others laugh with his quick wit and constant jokes. He was also an avid card player who loved games like Cribbage and Euchre, taking great pride and joy in both playing and teaching his family how to enjoy them. He especially cherished playing the game of Tic with his sisters, a pastime that brought laughter and lasting memories. Being extremely social, he was often found “working the tables” at family gatherings, making sure to talk with everyone. John believed deeply in the importance of family, instilling a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility in those around him. He selflessly cared for Richard, Shirley, and Shirley’s mother, Verna, during their times of illness, always putting loved ones first. Above all, John cherished his family and especially his grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, 55756 Tulip Rd., New Carlisle with a one-hour visitation prior to the mass in the church. Burial for John will be held at a later date.
