Joan Brugh, 92 years old, peacefully passed away on Friday, June 21, 2024 surrounded by her family at Creekside Village in Mishawaka.
Joan was born on June 19, 1932 in South Bend, to the late Frank L. and Sophia (Klosowski) Somers. On November 28, 1953, Joan married the love of her life, George "Bob" Robert Brugh, who preceded her in death in 1981. Joan is also preceded in death by her son, George Brugh, Jr; sisters, Lucille Hardman, Adeline Coleman; and brother, Robert Somers.
Left to cherish their memory of Joan are her children, Michaelene (Steve) Dewey, Curtis (Kim) Brugh, and Kevin (Terry) Brugh; 7 grandchildren, Alison (Damon) Witters, Jason (Diana) Brugh, Christopher Dewey, Ryan (Rita) Brugh, Bobby (Molly) Brugh, Natalie Brugh, and Jarrod Brugh; 9 great-grandchildren, Anna, Olivia, Alex, Sofia, Oliver, Elena, Jocelyn, Eloise and Parker; her sister-in-law, Darlene Birchfield; special nieces, Nancy and Paulette; and many more nieces and nephews.
Joan retired from Uniroyal in 1991. While working for Uniroyal, she was very instrumental in bringing fairness to women in the work place. After retiring from Uniroyal, Joan went to get her CNA certification and worked for Visiting Nurses for many years. Above all, Joan loved her family, they meant everything to her. She enjoyed spending as much time with her grandchildren as she could and loved cooking them wonderful Polish meals.
The family would like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for their exceptional care of Joan.
Visitation for Joan will be from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm on Saturday, July 27, 2024 with a Memorial Service to begin at 12:00 pm. All at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. South Bend. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Joan Brugh can be made out to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
