Jerome “Jerry” T. Ewald, 95, a lifelong resident of the South Bend area, passed away at home on Sunday, February 08, 2026 with his loving family by his side.
Jerome was born on January 4, 1931 in South Bend, to the late Alex and Mary (Molenda) Ewald. On August 11, 1951, Jerome married his love, Darlene (Pawlak) Ewald, who passed away on February 7, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard M. Ewald on August 3, 2022.
Left to cherish the memory of Jerome are his children, Dawn Ewald of South Bend, Daryl Ewald of Nappanee, Derek (Georgeann) Ewald of Elkhart; grandchildren, Jason Lula, Jessica (Mikel) Glossenger, Ashley (Rachel) Petrass-Bland, Andrew Petrass, Alexis (Johnny) Jerzykowski, Justin (Shannay) Ewald, Ryne Ewald, Brittany (Tom) Lowe, Chad (Nikki) Brew; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Terri Ewald.
Jerome served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After being discharged, he went to work at the Bendix Corporation as a Design Engineer for 42 years. During this time, he was elected as the St. Joseph County Surveyor. Jerome was a member of the American Legion 154. During the summer he loved spending time with his family at the lake. He also loved sporting events.
Visitation will be held 11:00 am – 2:00 pm, with a Funeral Service beginning at 2:00 pm, on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
