James D. Sellers, Jr.

James Dennis Sellers, Jr. (Jim), 78, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2023, in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born March 30, 1945, graduated Penn High School and was a strong Penn swim team competitor. Educated as a surgery tech, Jim served for the United States Air Force. Naturally mechanically inclined, in civilian life, he earned his tradesmanship in Sheet Metal Workers’ Local No. 20 Union serving 28 years as a gifted sheet metal fabricator in the Michiana region. Jim was a hard worker, selfless principled family man, devoted Christian, gentle husband, and fun-loving father. His unique and dry sense of humor was endearing to all who knew him.

Preceded in death by his parents, James D. Sellers, Sr. and Ruth M. (Schmaltz) Sellers. Left to cherish Jim's life is his loving wife of 51 years, Marsha Lynn (Stawnik), daughters, Shari Lynn Sellers, and Terri Ann (Sellers) Olivarez (Rigoberto). He leaves behind the legacy of seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one niece, one great-nephew, one great-niece, and cousins.

Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Many thanks to all who managed his healthcare, the VA, and particularly Hospice members, Jennifer and Cydney, for your concern and love. He enjoyed both of your stories and humor. You helped Jim bear his medical conditions with dignity and we are grateful of your help for our brave hero.

A celebration of his life with military funeral honors will be held Friday, March 29, 2024 at noon at St. Joseph Cemetery, 24980 State Road 2, South Bend, IN 46619, followed by a 21-gun salute. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association or the National Kidney Foundation.
