James Kmitta

James Kmitta, 81 years old, passed away on December 18, 2025, in Goshen, IN, while surrounded by his loved ones.

James (Jim) was born on June 17, 1944, in South Bend, IN, to the late Edwin Kmitta and Alice Farrell.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Kmitta and Alice Farrell; stepfather, Charles Farrell; brother, Ernie Kmitta; sister, Geraldine Kmitta; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Kmitta.

Left to cherish their memories of Jim are his children, James Kmitta, Sherri Kmitta, Brian (Cindy) Kmitta - a nephew as close as a son, Jennifer (Troy) Stutzman, Tracey (Adam) McCullough, Bobby (Gabby) Kmitta; sister, Renee (Mike) Spier; niece, Charli Ann Spier; Grandchildren, Grace, Coleton, Macy, Beckham, Molly, Teagan, and Barrett

Jim worked as a police officer for 20+ years and had his own construction business until he retired in his seventies.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing. He loved to cook and be with family more than anything. Jim was a family man and loved family reunions and cookouts, and taking his kids fishing or hiking. He always had his pocket knife and was the hardest worker you've ever met. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Visitation for Jim will be held from 10:00am - 12:00 pm Sunday, December 21, 2025, at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, with a memorial service to follow at 12:00 pm.
