Guadalupe (Rodriguez) DeLeón, 90 years old, peacefully passed away with her family by her side on July 29, 2024 in South Bend.
Guadalupe was born on July 14, 1934 in Donna, TX to the late Santiago and Luciana (Moreno) Rodriguez. On July 14, 1962, Guadalupe married the love of her life, Francisco DeLeón, who preceded her in death in 1998. Guadalupe was also preceded in death by her siblings, Candido Rodriguez, Sr., Senaido Rodriguez, and Timotea Moreno.
Guadalupe is survived by her children, Jose (Monica) DeLeón, Juan (Patricia) DeLeón, Jesus DeLeón, Cristina DeLeón, and Arturo (Jennifer) DeLeón; grandchildren, John Stephen DeLeón, Tatum Strickland, Cherokee Kwiatkowski, Rocio Alvarez, Luz Alvarez, Arturo DeLeón, Jr, and Adelina DeLeón; 6 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Juan Rodriguez.
Guadalupe worked as an Instructional Assistant for the South Bend School Corporation for over 40 years before her retirement. Guadalupe was very devoted to her faith. She loved to worship Jesus Christ. She also loved to minister to her family and the church through her food and meals she cooked. She was known for her delicious made from scratch tortillas and tamales. She loved to dance and loved everything Texas, especially the Dallas Cowboys and yellow roses. She was awarded the Unsung Latina Heroine Award for Hispanic Heritage Month in October of 2003. Guadalupe was also dedicated to the church – being a member of St. Stephens and then St. Adalberts. She was a Lecter and an Eucharistic Minister for St. Adalbert. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Society and the L.U.L.A.C.
Friends and family will be received from 3:00pm-8:00pm Sunday, August 4, 2024 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd, South Bend, with a Rosary to be prayed at 7:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am Monday, August 5, 2024 at St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W Grace St, South Bend. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
