Gregory James Chavez

Gregory James Chavez, 68, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Friday, September 8, 2023.

Greg was born on July 28, 1955 in San Antonio, TX to the late Gregorio and Rosa (Garza) Chavez Jr.  He is also preceded in death by his nephew, Cole Chavez, grandparents, Tia Mary Garza, and several other beloved aunts & uncles.

Left to cherish the memory of Greg are his siblings, Carlos Chavez, Catherine (Greg) DeRue, Teresa “Terri” (Lupe) Valtierra, and Geraldine “Gerri” (John) Mahoney; nieces & nephews, Adriana (Trey), Christian, Camden, Morgan, Chase, Katherine, Chloe, Elizabeth, Clay, Chiara; Tia Helen, Tios Daniel & Aurora, Tia Maria, Aunt Marilyn, and numerous dear cousins.

Greg enjoyed music, traveling, trains, and city architecture. True to his name, he was a popular and gregarious man who was kind, helpful, and neighborly. He loved and cherished his family and friends, especially his adored nieces and nephews. Greg was also a dedicated son and caregiver to his parents, Gregorio & Rosa Chavez.

The Chavez family would like to thank Greg’s dear friends who stayed by his side in his final days.

Visitation will be held 10:00am to 1:45pm, with a Rosary being prayed at 1:45pm and the Funeral Service beginning at 2:00pm on Friday, September 15, 2023 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, South Bend. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
