Francis "Chris" Joseph Christ

Mishawaka – Francis “Chris” Joseph Christ, 95 years old, peacefully passed away surrounded by his daughters on November 1, 2024 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend. Chris was born on March 14, 1929 in Garrett, IN to the late Joseph and Regina (Hunsel) Christ.

On August 30, 1952 in St. Monica Catholic Church, Chris married the love of his life of 70 years, Margaret (Steif) Christ, who preceded him in death in January 2023. Along with his parents and loving wife, Chris was preceded in death by his infant son, Francis Joseph Jr.

Chris is survived by his daughters, Sue (Phil) Baumgartner and Karen Christ; and granddaughters, Natalie and Kathryn Baumgartner.

Chris graduated from South Bend Central Catholic High School in 1947. He proudly served in the National Guard as a Sharpshooter, although he did not see active duty. Chris was a Machinist and Tool and Die Maker at White Farm (Oliver Corporation) for 20 years. He then worked at National Standard in Niles, Mi for 18 years, before retiring in 1989. Chris enjoyed camping in Pentwater, Michigan and Wintering in New Port Richey, Florida.

The family would like to thank Dr. Haidong Bao, Dr. Shaya Mokfi, and all the nurses at Memorial Hospital that cared for Dad. A note of thanks also to Heart-to-Heart Hospice for their end of life services.

Visitation for Chris will be on Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Monica Catholic Church, 222 W Mishawaka Ave, Mishawaka, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka, IN. Funeral arrangements were trusted to St. Joseph Funeral Home.
