Deborah (Wisniewski) Mitchell

Deborah Ann Mitchell, 70, passed away on Sunday, October 29, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Deborah was born on August 4, 1953 in South Bend, IN to Eugene and Dolores M. (McClone) Wisniewski. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene.

Left to cherish the memory of Deborah is her loving husband, David Mitchell; children, Christopher Mitchell, Steven (Jessica) Mitchell; her mother, Dolores Wisniewski; brother, Robert (Mary Lou) Wisniewski; grandchildren, Sophie Mitchell, Oliver Mitchell; and many nieces & nephews.

Deborah graduated from Washington High School in 1971 and then attended IUSB where she graduated with a degree in education and then later a master’s degree.  Debbie went on to teach at Greene School for over 20 years where she was fondly remembered by both students and teachers alike. She enjoyed trips to Hacienda with the teachers and was a member of the Homemakers Club of Greene Township. Debbie loved spending time outdoors and watching the leaves change in the fall.  She loved road trips to Brown County in the fall and trips to Lake Michigan year-round with her husband Dave, as well as spending time with friends whenever possible.  One of Debbie’s favorite things was watching the hummingbirds as they visited their feeder right out the front window.  She was happiest when she was with her family, though. She loved the many car rides around the area with her husband Dave, family dinners at her son Chris’ house on Sundays, attending her grandchildren's school and sporting events with Steve and Jess, and going to Potato Creek with her parents Gene and Dolores.  Her legacy will live on in everyone whose life she touched and she will forever be in their hearts.

Friends and family will be received from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, Sunday, November 12, 2023 in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN. with a Memorial Service to begin at 2:00 pm.
