Dalton "Dal" Lee Whelan

Dalton “Dal” Lee Whelan, 81 years old, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at his residence in South Bend.

Dal was born on February 7, 1943 in Jonesboro, IN to the late Cecil and Ruby (Stephenson) Whelan. He is also preceded in death by a sister, Verona Herchberger, and brother, Edd Whelan.

Left to cherish the memory of Dal is his loving wife, Theresa (Charles) Whelan; children, Gina Gonzalez, Lori Graham, Bradley Bates, Jason (Heather) Bates, and Scott (Nicole) Bates; 14 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Dal proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Seabee and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was very involved in the local VA and the American Legion Post 284. Dal also enjoyed spending time with his cousins whom he loved and was involved in their lives.

At this time there will be no services per Dals wishes. Military Honors will be held at a future date. Funeral arrangements were trusted to St. Joseph Funeral Home.
