Bernardino “Jaro” Vela Herrera, 55 years old, passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 in Mishawaka.
Jaro was born on July 2, 1967 in Nostic, Jalisco, Mexico to Jose de Jesus Vela and Petra Herrera. He is preceded in death by his father, Jose de Jesus Vela; brothers, Jose Vela Herrera, Adrian Vela Herrera, Agustin Vela Herrera, and Baltazar Vela Herrera.
Left to cherish the memory of Bernardino is his loving wife, Marisela Avalos; mother, Petra Herrera; children, Vanessa Vela, Bernie Vela and Yalien Vela: grandchildren, Alexander Vela and Allison Santes; brothers, Herminio Vela Herrera, Jose de Jesus Vela, Jr., Efren Vela Herrera; sisters, Sofia Urena Vela, Berta Vela, Guadalupe (Tim) Acevedo Vela; and many nieces and nephews.
Jaro was such humble human being. Very caring and outgoing. Family was something really important for him, always made sure his loved ones were good before himself. Great sense of humor. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren. Enjoyed going out.
Friends and family will be received Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S Mayflower Rd South Bend, IN 46619, with a Rosary to be prayed at 6:00pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 PM on Friday, May 5, 2023 with a one-hour visitation prior to the mass in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 2505 W. Grace St., South Bend, IN 46619. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
