Barbara Manges Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Manges, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed from this world on December 19, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on December 24, 1942, in South Bend, Indiana, Barbara lived her life in the place she loved, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and unwavering spirit.

Barbara was the daughter of Clara (Kosik) and Harry Ciesiolka, who preceded her in death. Their love and guidance shaped her into the remarkable person she became. Barbara's life was filled with cherished moments and deep connections, including her marriage to Doug Manges at the Saint Joseph City Council building on December 14, 2000. Together, they created a beautiful life built on love, laughter, and shared dreams.

She is survived by her devoted husband Doug, her loving daughter Marie Brumbaugh, her son Timothy Brumbaugh and his wife Judith, and her two treasured grandchildren. Barbara’s family was the center of her world, and she found immense joy in their accomplishments and happiness. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support were the cornerstones of her relationships, and her family will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Barbara dedicated much of her professional life to serving others, spending approximately 20 years bartending and waitressing at Antonio's, a local establishment that became a second home to her. She retired in 2002, leaving behind a legacy of friendship and camaraderie among patrons and coworkers alike. Her infectious smile and warm demeanor attracted many, and she forged friendships that would last a lifetime.

Beyond her work, Barbara was an active member of her community, participating in the dart association and playing out of Antonio's, where she found joy and camaraderie among fellow players. A practicing Catholic, she drew strength from her faith and found solace in her spiritual community.

Barbara was a woman of simple pleasures; she relished watching old Westerns, particularly her favorite show, "Gunsmoke." She had a special fondness for Patrick Swayze, whose talent she admired greatly. Her favorite vacation destination was Disney World, where she created lasting memories filled with joy, laughter, and magic.

Barbara's life was marked by love, laughter, and compassion. Her spirit will live on in the stories she shared and the love she gave so freely. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life during the visitation and funeral service to be held on December 26, 2024. The visitation begins at 11 AM with the funeral being held at noon at St. Joseph Funeral Home.

As we remember Barbara Manges, let us carry forward her legacy of kindness, her love for family, and the joy she brought into our lives. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
