Arnold J. Compas
11/11/1921 – 12/23/2023
South Bend- Arnold, 102, joined his wife, Anna in heaven on December 23, 2023.
He was a wonderful father to Jennifer (Thomas) Gooley; grandfather to Thomas (LeeAnn) Gooley and Pamela (Gregg) Rajski; and great-grandfather to Addison and Grace Rajski.
Arnold was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Anna (Himmelsbach) Compas; his parents, Benjamin and Sophia (Scherer) Compas; sisters, Lorena Himmelsbach and Lena Bucher; and brothers, Charles and Ervin Compas.
Arnold honorably and proudly served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII as a staff sergeant and in the Air Force during the Korean War as a sergeant first class. He received the Korean Service Medal with 3 bronze stars---United Nations Service Medal.
After his retirement from Bendix in 1979, he spent his winters in Florida playing shuffleboard, pool, and square dancing. His summers were spent in South Bend taking care of his lawn, which was his pride and joy, and his vegetable garden.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale (South Bend), Senior1Care, and Hospice for their care of Arnold.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am Friday, December 29, 2023 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Parish, 2310 E Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, IN 46615. Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
